The Bodega Bay Grange Newsletter
Making news this week…
The Scholarship Committee has announced that six graduating seniors have each been awarded $500 scholarships to continue their education . Although the actual monies will be paid out when the recipients enroll in college the fundraising as been going on all year long.
Each year the Grange awards a total of $3000 to eligible seniors from the monies raised at many of the Grange sponsored events and activities (including the annual Cioppino Feed). The Scholarship Committee actively participates in many of the community events held at the Grange to be able to provide local students some financial support as they look forward to the future. Already this committee has provided the opportunity for the rest of our community to contribute with several other fundraisers scheduled for the end of summer and early fall.
There will be a community FLEA MARKET held at the Grange over Labor Day weekend (SAT AND SUN). (Those of you who participated in the Memorial Day Flea Market know how successful that was….Get you table early!) The table rental goes to the Scholarship Fund as well as any other donation you may want to make). Also, tickets for the annual raffle will be on sale shortly. The raffle will be held at the Oct 7 Grange meeting.
AND
The annual PTA BOOK SALE is just around the corner. The sale will be held at the Grange the first two weekends in August. Those of us who have books we would like to find new homes for are reminded that the deadline for donating is August 7.The proceeds from this event benefit the Bodega Bay School After School programs. To make a donation, volunteer, or find out more information you may call Carolyn (875-3379), Dee (875-2798), or JoAnn (875-2348).
MANY THANKS TO….
The Grange Dance Committee would like to thank the sponsors and many volunteers who participated in the CHILI COOK-OFF and COWBOY DANCE held at the Grange on June 19 th. From all accounts, the dance was a great success. In addition to the chili contest and the fabulous country-western swing music provided by The Lonestar Retrobates the event also included a yodeling contest (won by Michael Smallwood) and pony rides courtesy of Sarahbeth Vosburg of Horse N Around Trail Rides.
First place Chili Cook-off winner Christophe Zbiden of Bodega Volunteer Fire was awarded an engraved cast iron chili skillet. Kevin from the Wilmar Fire Dept. was the second place winner, receiving a hand painted apron commemorating the first annual Bodega Bay Chili Cook-off and Cowboy Dance. Third place winner Brett Hughs (also of Bodega VFD) received “The Joy of Cooking” cookbook. Justin Fox of Bodega Bay Firefighters Association won fourth place taking home a Chili cookbook and fifth place went to Will Morris (Bodega VFD) who went home with a can of chili
